DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented School to Work – Materials Engineering student to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

Enhancing Operational Efficiency: By learning to operate various analytical instruments and equipment, you'll support Materials Engineering Technicians in performing precise physical analyses.

Ensuring Instrument Reliability: Assisting with routine calibrations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs will help maintain the accuracy and reliability of critical instruments.

Promoting Safety and Compliance: Your involvement in the collection, transportation, and documentation of chemical waste disposal will ensure safe and compliant handling of hazardous materials.

Improving Data Quality: Preparing samples, gathering, interpreting, and documenting test results will contribute to high-quality data and robust technical reports.

Building Expertise: Attending classes and training programs will help you acquire the skills and knowledge needed to pass certification exams, enhancing your professional qualifications.

Supporting Team Success: Conducting work independently and assisting other technicians and engineers will foster a collaborative and productive work environment.

Maintaining Standards: Participating in the maintenance of quality procedures and work instructions will uphold the standards and consistency of laboratory operations.

Driving Continuous Improvement: Engaging in improvement projects, audits, and maintaining workplace cleanliness will contribute to ongoing enhancements in processes and safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Data Acquisition Skills: Ensure you can prepare samples, verify equipment calibration, and perform tests according to approved procedures. This will help you generate reliable data that can be trusted by engineers and customers.

Material Characterization Expertise: Develop the ability to interpret mechanical, chemical, microstructural, and physical properties using laboratory equipment. This will help you confirm compliance and correlate properties with test results to determine robustness.

Collaboration: Build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. Effective teamwork is crucial for achieving common goals.

Effective Communication: Develop and deliver clear, multi-mode communications that cater to the unique needs of different audiences. This will ensure your messages are understood and well-received.

Valuing Differences: Recognize and appreciate the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to the organization. Embracing diversity will enhance your ability to work effectively with a wide range of colleagues.

Education:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Current Enrollment: You must be a current student in high school or in a college/university pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Engineering or a related field.

Experience:

• Conducts material characterizations of CDBS components.

• Conducts special, materials related, assignments under direction of Materials Engineering Manager and Team Leaders.

• Maintains liaison with Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing, and supporting personnel.

• Assists in the maintenance and calibration of analytical equipment.

• Assists in the specification of materials and processing systems used in the manufacture of CDBS Components

• Acts in a safe manner and promotes safe practices within the group.

• Understands and complies to the Cummins Environmental Policy

Compensation (for United States)

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The

final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate’s

qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
