Cummins Inc. Controls Engineer - Senior in Columbus, Indiana
DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Senior Controls Engineer to join our team specializing in Manufacturing, onsite in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Control System Development : By developing and designing control systems, you'll ensure that processes are automated and optimized for efficiency and accuracy.
Bench Testing Implementation : Implementing bench tests will validate the functionality and performance of control systems, ensuring they meet specifications.
Software and Equipment Alteration : Altering software and equipment to ensure sensors and actuators function correctly will maintain system reliability and performance.
Problem Solving and Debugging : Supporting and debugging complex problems and change requests will minimize downtime and enhance system robustness.
Cost Estimation and Appropriation : Preparing cost estimates and writing appropriation requests will ensure projects are financially viable and well-supported.
Project Investigation and Planning : Investigating project problems and requirements, and developing solutions that consider economic, personnel, and environmental factors, will lead to sustainable and effective outcomes.
PLC Installation and Support : Being responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC-based hardware and software will ensure seamless integration and operation of control systems.
Mentorship : Coaching and mentoring less experienced Controls Engineers will build a strong, knowledgeable team and foster professional growth.

Electrical System Troubleshooting : Analyze and resolve electrical control system issues to return systems to proper operating conditions.
Factory Automation : Implement changes to automate manufacturing processes using available technology and programming techniques, optimizing automation for the manufacturing environment.
Sensor Technology and Measurement : Select and apply sensor technology to perform measurements and analyze data, ensuring products meet quality standards.
Valuing Differences : Recognize and appreciate the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to the organization, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
Machine Programming : Create factory floor machine programs to improve machine usage and overall operation.
Manufacturing Knowledge : Demonstrate a strong understanding of manufacturing principles by correctly implementing changes in processes, equipment, and applications to meet functional needs and drive continuous improvement.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
- Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
QUALIFICATIONS

100% onsite
This Controls Engineer role will function within the Manufacturing Engineering department with a heavy focus on Safety improvement.
This role will work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to identify root causes and implement engineered fixes to reduce safety hazards.
Lead Safety engineering projects and provide safety guidance on manufacturing projects.
Support proactive safety projects, working directly with cross functional team.
Participate on incident investigation and provide support on action plan.
Work on corrective actions and A3 for Safety issues.
Support large capital projects (new equipment install), new product launches, and broad-scoped line improvement projects (machine guarding/Lockout tagout).
Collecting/reviewing data to create a safer production, improve material flow across the site, minimize Powered Industrial Vehicle usage, and leverage engineering controls to eliminate safety risks.
Implement Industry 4.0 projects to support safety across the site.
