We are looking for a talented Combustion and Emissions Systems Technical Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Columbus, IN.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Combustion and Emissions Science : A deep understanding of combustion systems, including the conversion of chemical energy to heat, exhaust pollutant formation, and the use of modeling and experimental tools.

  • Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer : Proficiency in interpreting and predicting the performance of fluid and thermal systems, leveraging knowledge of liquid and gas flow, thermal energy transfer, and relevant tools.

  • Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion : Expertise in energy conversion systems such as internal combustion engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, and batteries, with a solid grasp of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.

  • Product Failure Mode Avoidance : Skills in identifying and mitigating potential product failure modes to improve reliability through comprehensive analysis and prioritization of failure causes.

  • Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis : Ability to impact product design decisions using computational tools and methods to predict product function capabilities at various system levels.

  • Problem Solving and Systems Thinking : Strong problem-solving skills to address product issues, determine root causes, and implement robust solutions, along with the ability to define and analyze systems to predict behavior and devise modifications.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.

Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Information:

  • Role Expectations: The selected candidate will be required to report on-site four days per week.

  • Position Overview : The role of System Performance and Emission Technical Specialist on the Titanium (MY’26) 15L team focuses on the next-generation Cummins HELM™ diesel 15-liter engine, designed to meet U.S. EPA and CARB 2027 standards. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on a mildly hybrid diesel engine with next-generation compact twin aftertreatment featuring heater control.

  • Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop and Deliver : E, D, L, P calibration tuning to meet criteria emissions (e.g., NOx, HC) and CO2 requirements.

  • Actively Engage : In system-out emission work to demonstrate capability in meeting advanced EPA and CARB 2027 regulations.

  • Diagnostic Responsibilities : E, D, L diagnostic demonstration for select CPE diagnostics.

  • Simulation Support : Support simulation-based activities as appropriate (e.g., GT Power, CyberCal, VMS).

  • Design Reviews : Participate in design reviews.

  • Calibration Maturity : Ensure calibration maturity for CPE-owned parameters.

  • Robustness Assessments : Conduct robustness assessments via ALD/limited experimental testing.

  • Certification Activities : Support and execute pre-certification/certification activities.
